Dome Update

Here is a picture of the building crew: Andrew (my hubby), Roger, Marty, and Melvin. Not pictured are: Brian and Bill.

First, they are using a transit to make the form level.

The toe boards for the form.

The outside ring of the form.

Reinforcing the wall and hammering in rebar.

Building the inner ring of the form.

Andrew and Zachary drilling holes for the last part of the form.

The Bobcat had to stay inside the form to help with the concrete.

The form is ready for the concrete.

From the road, it looks like a wooden swimming pool.

On the day of the concrete pour, my father-in-law, Mike Wilhelm, and our neighbor, Jon Toombs, came to help. Here they are tying rebar as the concrete truck arrives.

Loading the Bobcat with concrete.

Roger directs Marty where to drop the concrete.

Action shot of the concrete.

Andrew using a shovel on the concrete and Melvin using a vibrator to get the air pockets out of the concrete.

Andrew, Mike, and Jon shoveling concrete out of wheelbarrows into the smaller part of the form.

Smoothing the top.

Jon and Mike making a channel in the concrete.

Michael taking the wood form off. The ring beam is done.

Now it looks like a concrete swimming pool with a Bobcat in it.

To get the Bobcat out, Andrew built a ramp. Then, he started laying the plumbing and filling in the foundation.

Bottom left is the sewer line leaving the concrete wall. Top right is the gray line going through the wall.

Zachary building a rock wall for the pipe to sit on while Andrew works on fill.

Filling in the sewer line.

With the plumbing covered up.

Mostly filled.

Andrew is working so hard to make this dream a reality. Daily (for the last year), I see him up at the site working. The boys have been a big help. They love to help Daddy any way they can.

A big thank you to Mike Wilhelm and Jon Toombs for helping with the concrete pour!
